Egg cartons

Egg cartons are a well designed simple paper product. These container have saved many eggs from getting broken and wasted. Before the egg carton was invented, eggs had to be stored in boxes with hay. They had to be carried in baskets filled with hay. The egg carton eliminated the need of hay and bulky storing and carrying methods. Today a dozen eggs can be brought home in a neatly arranged small package. Because of the egg cartons, the delicate eggs can be transported across the land without any damage. This was a task that was not possible before the invention of the egg carton.

The method of manufacturing an egg carton is much different than a milk carton. It is the laminating and folding that gives milk cartons its strength and shape. A process called molding makes the egg cartons, where a wet sheet of paper is pressed in a heated mold, to get the desired configuration. The most common egg cartons have either six or twelve pockets to hold a half dozen or a dozen eggs. Long after the eggs are emptied, the carton will retain its shape all the way to the trashcan.

Two cups are put together to form the body of a doll or an ornamental animal. Six bodies can be made from an one-dozen egg carton. To adhere the two halves together and to increase strength, layers of paper with glue are applied to the surface. Once the basic body is structured, the other parts are attached to it to make either dolls or ornaments
