Cockatoo

Parakeet is the common name for the birds of the parrot family. Budgerigars are the best known parakeet. They are native to the grasslands and sparsely wooded areas of central and southern Australia. Budgerigars are nomadic birds that move around looking for food and breed when the rain fall is sufficient to ensure a supply of seeds for the young. Many budgerigars are raised in captivity and are now available in many colors.

The monk parakeet is the hardiest of the parrot family. They are green in color and are native to South America. They feed on fruit and grain. Permanent breeding families of monk parakeets are seen around the New York City region. They are believed to have originated from escaped caged birds.

Carolina parakeet was the only parrot family native to the United States. Over hunting and habitat destruction by humans were the primary causes of its extinction.

Cockatoos are tropical birds in the parrot family that are native to an area extending from Malaysia to Philippines, including Australia. All cockatoos have feathered crests, which they can raise or flatten. They also have large, curved, sharply pointed bills that are used to crack nuts. Most cockatoos feed on fruits, vegetables, and roots. Cockatoos are popular cage birds because of their ability to mimic human speech.
